Innovation powered by nature

Nature's Building Blocks

Discover how using scent to disrupt bugs from mating helps Indonesia’s rice farmers, and how water-efficient farming can give farmers in Europe a helping hand to tackle some of biggest challenges brought on by climate change.

About biologicals

Our most vital crops are vulnerable to pests and climate change. How biologicals can help make potatoes heat resistant, and grapes pests free.

Rice harvests in Indonesia are under threat from pests. How using scent to disrupt bugs from mating is helping Indonesia’s rice farmers.

TALETE®

Water availability is fast becoming a matter of urgency in farming. Why water-efficient farming is good for grapes.

We need to increase our food production by 50% by 2050 to feed our growing world. But as temperatures rise and key resources like water become increasingly limited - people, nature and food production are facing devastating new challenges, including climate change, population growth, and soil degradation.

How we produce food has to evolve.

Today’s farmers need more sustainable ways of growing their crops, that respond to consumers’ demands about the food we eat. Syngenta Biologicals brings science-based innovation to offer more choices and flexibility for farmers.

Biologicals offer farmers additional solutions to manage pests and diseases, address abiotic stresses and enhance nutrient use efficiency and soil health.

What are Biologicals?

Biologicals are agricultural technologies that harness nature to protect and improve the health of food crops facing the stresses of today’s rapidly changing world.

The three main types of biologicals are: biocontrols, biostimulants and biofertilizers.

Biocontrols

Biocontrols control pests and diseases. They are naturally occurring materials that are used to control fungal and bacterial diseases, insect pests, nematodes and weeds.

Biostimulants

Biostimulants enhance and strengthen crops. They are applied to plants, seeds or the root environment to stimulate the natural processes of plants, benefiting nutrient use efficiency, tolerance to abiotic stress and crop quality.

Biofertilizers

Biofertilizers are microbial-based products that are used for fixing nitrogen, and to improve nutrient availability and uptake and promote plant growth.

Leaders in innovation

By innovating boldly, we can transform the future of food security for us all.

In October 2020, Syngenta acquired Valagro, an investment made based on a shared foundation of science-based innovation. Following the acquisition, both companies have worked together closely in service of farmers everywhere.

Syngenta Biologicals is one of the key global companies poised to shape the rapidly growing biologicals market. With over 40 years of experience, our legacy company, Valagro, offers farmers a comprehensive crop portfolio in biologicals, with a market-leading position in biostimulants, backed by best-in-class R&D capabilities.

At the heart of it all is our people, working towards the purpose of helping farmers improve productivity, while creating a sustainable future for people and nature.

Collaborator of choice

By connecting science with nature, we offer farmers complementary options with biologicals – but this requires collaboration, new ways of thinking and the right innovation ecosystem.

Syngenta brings together biologicals business under Syngenta Biologicals

Syngenta announced Syngenta Biologicals, bringing together Valagro – the pioneer in biostimulants and specialty nutrients it acquired in 2020 – with its in-house biologicals business, setting the stage to shape rapid growth of the global biologicals market.

Syngenta and Unium Bioscience to bring novel biological seed treatment to northwest Europe

Syngenta gains exclusive rights to NUELLO® iN to improve nutrient use efficiency, increase crop yield and promote plant health.

Syngenta Seedcare and Bioceres Crop Solutions collaborate to bring innovative biological seed treatment to market

Customers seeking cutting-edge biological seed treatment solutions will benefit from a global commercial and R&D collaboration announced between Syngenta Crop Protection’s Seedcare business and Bioceres Crop Solutions, a leader in biological crop productivity solutions.

Syngenta Biologicals launch M2i’s pheromone-based technology, EXPLOYO™ Vit, to support wine growers in France

Syngenta Biologicals and M2i expand their collaboration to launch a new pheromone-based solution to help wine growers in France effectively manage detrimental pests that impact the quality and yield of grapes.

Provivi and Syngenta Crop Protection launch pheromone-based technology Nelvium™ to control detrimental rice pests

Provivi and Syngenta Biologicals announce the commercialization of NelviumTM, a new mating-disruption solution, to effectively and more safely control detrimental pests in rice – a crop serves as the primary energy source for half of the world’s people.

Syngenta Crop Protection acquires two bioinsecticides from UK-based biocontrol technology developer, Bionema

Syngenta Crop Protection has acquired two next generation bioinsecticides, NemaTrident® and UniSpore®, to combat increasing resistance and a wide range of insects and pests across horticulture and ornamentals, turf amenity and forestry.

Biologicals Summit

Bringing together the best across the industry in the name of collaboration

We brought the best across the industry together for our first-ever Biologicals Summit in October, 2022.

Over 70 thought leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers and those who care deeply about our industry, came together with our internal teams for an inspiring day at our R&D site, Stein (Switzerland), where we were joined by an esteemed lineup of presenters, including Ambassador Kip Tom.

Our people

We take pride in having the best people in the industry. For us, imagination and creativity, meet passion and enthusiasm to develop new and better scenarios for the future.
