Syngenta management announcement
Basel, Switzerland
After a career spanning 26 years at Syngenta and legacy companies Novartis and Sandoz, Christoph Mäder, Global Head of Legal & Taxes and member of the Syngenta Executive Team since the formation of the company in 2000, has elected to step down and retire from Syngenta at the end of July, 2018.
During his distinguished career, Christoph played a key role in the establishment of Syngenta as a new global agribusiness company and has since led Legal, Tax, Intellectual Property, Ethics and Compliance and a number of other functions – a period during which Syngenta more than doubled in size. He was also responsible for all group activities in Switzerland, representing the company to political and government authorities and acting on the Board of a number of important industry associations.
Stephen Landsman, who joined Syngenta in early 2017 as Global Head of Mergers & Acquisitions, will succeed Christoph as Group General Counsel and join the Syngenta Executive Team. Steve has considerable global legal experience and has held Group General Counsel and M&A leadership roles in several global companies.
Roman Mazzotta, Head of Legal for Syngenta Crop Protection, in addition to his current role, is appointed Syngenta Country President for Switzerland and will also represent the company externally. Roman, a Swiss citizen, joined Syngenta in 2000, and holds a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Zürich and is admitted to the bar in Switzerland.
Erik Fyrwald, Syngenta CEO said: “I would like to thank Christoph for his strong leadership over the past 26 years at Syngenta and legacy companies, and for his many contributions – particularly in establishing Syngenta as a listed company, leading many M&A transactions over the years, the successful defense of Syngenta against Monsanto and, more recently, the acquisition of Syngenta by ChemChina. I wish him every success for the future as he focuses on his non-executive company roles and pursues new interests.”
“I also congratulate Stephen and Roman, two strong leaders who bring excellent experience and knowledge of Syngenta to their new roles.”
These appointments are effective May 1 and both roles will report to the CEO.
